Many of these kids thought that the Vietnam War was a chance for them to fight in a war as well as a chance for them to escape the poverty that resided among them.
The Vietnam War was a poor person’s conflict as the rich and prominent were able to evade the draft while the poor had no choice but to fight. The song Fortunate Son was written by the Creedence Clearwater Revival which explained the situation of those who were drafted and how they were not fortunate to evade the draft. Out of those who were drafted, many of the soldiers were Anti-War protesters who were against the War. Those students and protesters had to fight in the very war in which they were against. This was one of the things in which the hippie and Counter-Culture Movement were trying eliminate.
